Nexas Quartet - The Ashes

Melbourne Recital Centre

Sporting history is full of intense rivalries. This competitive spirit is most apparent in The Ashes Test cricket series between England and Australia. Ever since English cricket ‘died at the oval’ (The Sporting Times) following Australia’s epic victory in 1882, resulting in a ridiculous mock obituary and the creation of the mythic urn, (most likely holding the ashes of a cricket ball), Aussies have leapt at the prospect of beating the Brits again. Igniting the same atmosphere of one-upmanship, Nexas Quartet performs some of the best British compositions for saxophone quartet head-to-head with stellar new works by Australian composers. If cricket is anything to go by, this high-energy concert could quickly become the stuff of legend.
